Cambodia is grappling with many environmental challenges and waste management is one of the biggest. Rural communities have no access to rubbish disposal resulting in widespread dumping or burning. Little is known locally about the environmental and health impacts caused by such pollution.

Eco-bricks are an innovative solution to waste management. Each brick is made from a plastic water bottle stuffed with compacted non-biodegradable rubbish. One small water bottle can hold as much rubbish as a 20l waste basket.

Over 100,000 bottles have been used in building projects to date including classrooms, a library, teachers room and income generation workshop.
